CAMPUS BUILDING UPDATE:
Schechter Jerusalem and Tel Aviv Campuses on Schedule for Completion

JERUSALEM

The shell of the new 5-story Classroom Building is complete.
The flowing lines of the Miller Family Bet Midrash and lecture halls comprise Level 2 and 3.

In Jerusalem, the Schechter Institute Legacy Heritage Classroom Building shell has been completed. Five floors high and standing next to the Israel Museum, it has a view to Givat Ram to the west and Gilo to the South.

Walking through the ground floor Miller Family Bet Midrash and first floor classrooms, one can see and feel the striking beauty of architect Ada Karmi’s design in the utilization of open spaces and natural light.  From a vantage point in the first floor foyer, you will be able to look into the auditorium classroom; view students learning in the Bet Midrash below, or gaze out at the central garden.  The internal design will create an intimate and welcoming atmosphere in the building.

We have entered the final stage of building which includes all electrical and water installations as well as the finish to the exterior and interior facades.

Looking into a large Lecture Hall on Level 3.

NEVE ZEDEK

The original 19th century facade of the Schechter Center in the midst of restoration,
with a 21st century Neve Zedek hi-rise in the background.

In the Neve Zedek neighborhood of Tel Aviv, the Schechter Center for Jewish Culture - Legacy Heritage Building restoration is well underway.  Neve Zedek architect Michal Kimmel and Associates are painstakingly restoring the exquisite 19th century Templar building which is rich in detail. Plans have taken into account the original structure and building materials, while balancing the needs of modern functionality. This process requires close coordination between Schechter, the architect and the Tel Aviv municipality's preservation committee.

The future synagogue of the Schechter Center for Jewish Culture in Neve Zedek where walls and windows will be returned to their former glory.

The charm of the 140-year old building which served as a coffee house for artists like Nobel Prize Laureate Shai Agnon, and later, British army officers during the Mandate period, will be felt throughout the building. The Center’s ceiling has been restored to show the beauty of its original arches.  Restoration of the historic stairs, banisters, windows and door frames will use original materials.  In addition to the restoration of the original building, a new wing will eventually house offices, a coffeehouse and a two-classroom kindergarten.
