It was an amazing week, wrote a board member describing
the Schechter Dedication and Celebration that took place
in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, May 3-6, 2010. And so it was.
Filled with Ceremonies. Sightseeing. Jewish learning.
Good food and company. The excitement of witnessing
history-in-the-making. Helping make that history.
The week kicked off with a
Tribute Dinner honoring Robert Rifkind, outgoing board
of Trustees Chair who has led our institution with
wisdom for over a decade. Leadership from
'round the world attended the dedications which also
celebrated Schechter's 25th anniversary of
building bridges between Israelis and
Judaism.
In Jerusalem, over 200 guests
attended the dedication on May 4 of the Schechter
Institute-Legacy Heritage House. Natan Sharansky gave
the keynote address, followed by the Rabbi David Clayman
z"l Annual Limmud. The Schechter Medal was awarded for
the first time.
In Tel Aviv, the 120-year old
Templer building-Bet Lorenz- is being restored to its
former glory.
Dedicated on May 5, the courtyard of the Neve
Schechter - Legacy Heritage Center for Jewish Culture
was filled with good cheer and song.
Both buildings are
scheduled to open in the Fall of 2010.
